Don't squat with your spurs on !

Lewis Grizzard has a great saying to illustrate common sense- "Don't squat with your spurs on."

Often we try to create best in class processes and systems for our organisation. We benchmark and take the best of the best and look to implement that.

Thats a recipe for disaster. You can't , and more importantly, don't need to be the best at everything. You don't need that state of the art IT infrastructure, every module of the sales force automation system.

What you need are systems and processes whose capabilities map with your key priorities and deliver the functions that you need. No more, no less.

Sometimes, the simplest maxim prevails - If its not broken don't fix it.

In other words, use common sense
