Assess the landscape

KPIs, Metrics, objectives, financials ...
Our business relies so much  in them; but it is also good to take a step back from these drivers and assess your business in a broader way. Intrinsically we know that to be true, but actually doing it is another thing. While I am a big believer in managing to clear priorities and objectives and driving to results, we have to make sure we make time for the intangibles.
So how do we do that?

Set time in meeting agendas to ask the questions -  discuss the market, the environment; ask what your people are seeing and hearing when they meet with customers, partners, employees.
Ask your team  "What's going on? What are you hearing? What has you excited? What keeps you up at night?"

And then let the discussion flow. Step back. Assess the landscape
